Union Benefits– If you’re old enough to know what union benefits are, you know they are nothing but awesome. My husband just re-joined the union and we got to pick our Kaiser plan. When he first joined the union 9 years ago, I had no idea about insurance (nor was I married to him, so it was a moot point). This time around, I was able to look through and see the different types of benefits that were offered. We ended up choosing the Kaiser plan.

One of the first things I look at in a plan is the deductible. What is my max out of pocket expenses? These are questions you should ask yourself. “If I got hurt really badly and had to stay over in the hospital a few days, how much is the MOST I would pay in one year?” People don’t think about these questions until they get a $5,000 bill (because their deductible was $5k) and then they blame insurance companies for giving them a bad plan. Sometimes that’s true– sometimes the insurance company is tricky and doesn’t disclose everything when you’re first signing up. That’s why you need a broker!
