UnitedHealthcare (UHC) has new dental plans that are selling like crazy! They have a PPO and an INO that are very popular right now. The PPO plan (in this case) means the client can go to any dentist they want that is in-network or out-of-network with UHC. The INO is the In-Network Only plan. That means if you go to an out-of-network dentist, you basically went to a dentist without insurance.
The INO plans for groups of 10 or more have a $3500 annual benefit. That means you can get quite a bit of work done. At Brauer Insurance, we are selling these plans like crazy. Groups that have prior dental coverage have no waiting periods which is awesome. That means you can walk into your dentist the day it becomes effective and get $3500 of work done.
The Network
The UHC network is bigger than I had thought. Trust me, Steve and I were very suspicious about whether this was good dental insurance. We asked a lot of questions and found out that the network isn’t as big as say, Delta Dental, but they do alright! Especially in northern California and specifically San Jose. So far, 4 out of 5 dentists I’ve called in San Jose are contracted with them. That’s pretty good! I was thinking it was going to be like 1 out of 5.
